Ranking of NIA-reviewed P01, U01, U19, and R01 applications
Beginning in FY2012 NIA is discontinuing use of percentile ranks for program project applications and for other Research Project Grant (RPG) applications that are reviewed by NIA committees (for example, multi-site clinical trials). These applications will be considered separately from other RPG applications and have a separate funding line based upon priority/impact score and available funds. For FY 2012, NIA will allocate to this line no more than the average share of the funds expended on these kinds of competing awards for the preceding two years (FY 2010 and FY 2011). The need for this change has become apparent because available methods for assigning a percentile to NIA-reviewed applications (either against the CSR base or against other NIA-reviewed P01s) have failed to achieve an appropriate metric for ranking.
