Hispanic Caregiver Intervention Effectiveness Study

What Is This Study About?

This study will compare two dementia caregiver interventions, the New York University Caregiver Intervention (NYUCI) and Resources for Enhancing Caregivers Health (REACH OUT), to determine which is more effective in alleviating depressive symptoms and caregiver burden among Hispanic caregivers in New York City.

Do I Qualify To Participate in This Study?

Minimum Age: 18 Years

Maximum Age: 90 Years

Must have:

  • Self-identified Hispanic
  • Spouse, common-law partner, or other blood or in-law relative of person diagnosed with dementia
  • Person with dementia reports at least one memory/cognition symptoms and one daily functioning symptom in screening questionnaire
  • Caregiver is physically able to provide care
  • Caregiver is expected to live in New York City during the next 6 months or is available for study procedures in the New York City area
  • At least one relative or close friend living in the New York City area (includes New York, New Jersey, Connecticut)

Must NOT have:

  • Depression with psychotic features or suicidal ideation or attempts in the last 5 years
  • Major psychiatric disorder such as schizophrenia
  • Previous or current participation in caregiver support programs with the NYUCI or the REACH OUT
